The monarch butterfly scientific name "Danaus plexippus" which means "sleepy transformation." The adult monarch butterflies was a two pair of brilliant orange-red wings with black veins and white spots along the edges with wingspan up to 4inches. Each adult butterfly lives only about four to five weeks.
These butterflies are the only butterfly that has a migration pattern they migrate from the United States and Canada to central Mexican forest, just like birds who does a migratory event each each.
They feed on milkweed plants, however, these butterflies are threatening to disappear due to habitat loss (a place where they can reproduce) and their primary source of food is also in decreasing pattern due to herbicide.
This is what WWF is doing to preserve this beautiful butterfly "WWF works to preserve vital butterfly habitat in Mexico’s Monarch Butterfly Reserve by promoting good forest management and sustainable tourism. WWF also supports tree nurseries that help restore the forest in the Reserve, which creates new sources of income for the local communities that live among the butterflies."
