San Alfonso del Mar, Home of the World's Largest Swimming Pool

This swimming pool holds the Guiness Book of World's Record titled as the biggest swimming pool on Earth.

Opened in 2006, the San Alfonso del Mar, a private resort in Algarrobo, Chile, this swimming pool was designed by Fernando Fischmann owner of Crystal Lagoon who developed this gigantic pool, it stretched over a kilometer and covers 20 acres with a maximum depth of 35.1 meters.  This pool took over five years to construct.

The pool holds 66 million gallons of salt water, the equivalent of 100 Olympic sized swimming pools.  The water supply came from the pacific ocean which is pumped, filtered and treated before entering the pool, all this is controlled by computer system with an annual maintenance cost of US$4 million.

The Sun heats the water in the pool nearly 10 degrees warmer that the nearby ocean.


Their guests can have watersports like kayaking, jet-ski, water-ski and yachting.  There is also a giant lily pad with trampoline and slide.
