A 5-Year-Old Still Emotional When He Describes How He Saved His Father's Life

Salem, Indiana, A 5-year-old was awarded an honor a "Hobies Heroes" award, when this young boy named Xander McPheeters saved his father's life, Xander recounted "I saw a tree hit him and I ran out there and I helped him turn the tractor off,” he said. 

His father, James McPheeters said, "The way it hit me - I was just driving and boom, I didn't know nothing about it."

Xander describes his father's condition after the accident "His head was cut open and his nose was bleeding a little."

It was Xander quick thinking and the decision to ask for help after doing what he can do (turning off the tractor.)  After a week in the hospital and six months of therapy, his father is fully recovered.

Legendary Indiana University Diving Coach Hobie Billingsley was there himself to award Xander with the Hobies Heroes Award, which is given to young people who perform heroic deeds.
