Milking the world's most venomous fish

Stonefish releasing it's venom

Destin from Smarter Every Day will show us the most dangerous fish that's hiding in the corals or buried under the sand, they will extract it's venom with the help of venomologist Dr. Jamie Seymour of James Cook University.

The stonefish is the most venomous fish in the world, wearing a rubber glove Dr. Seymour captures the stonefish from the aquarium and put it on top of a table, stonefish can hold water up to their gills and can stay out of water for couple of hours they are inter-tidal animals.

Dr. Seymour explained that the stonefish's venom are released through its spines as your foot or whatever comes down over the top of it, the spine goes into your foot, and there's no venom sac until it gets about a third of the way down, and then what happens is your tissue compresses the venom sac and shoots it up along the spine which is now deeply embedded in your foot.

It's like stepping on a hypodermic needle that is upside down ready to squirt as soon as it has force applied.
