Baseball had this longstanding ceremonial first pitch made by an honored guest to signal the start of the new season of baseball, the ball was originally thrown from the grandstand to the pitcher inside the field, but in the 80's American President Ronald Reagan made his pitch from the pitcher's mound towards the home plate.

Honorees may be celebrities, the former player,  little kids, winners of a contest, a company representative who sponsored the game.
